Hello. My name is Marla Hatrak, and I am the new President of a group called National Center on Deaf Advocacy. NCDA has had been more focused on mental health, and now we would like to expand its focus on advocacy for the different issues within our deaf communities.
Today, I would like to recognize three Super Bowl performers, Colin Denny, Troy Kotsur, and
Justina Miles. I was impressed how the three performers employ their own intersectionalities
to match the songs they signed. It was really nice. Thanks to whoever chose those three
performers and match songs to each of them. It was just wow, very nicely done.
I know they have been spotlighted in social media. Now, Justina Miles has been interviewed on national TV. Congratulations.
May we continue this trend to recognize deaf performers. There was a discussion and now a
recognition that ASL interpreters are different from ASL performers. It’s cool. Now, people
know that they are different. Congratulations.
